Research

The CESPHN Research Strategy 2024-2027 outlines the organisation’s research vision and priorities. The strategy provides guidance for researchers and stakeholders to ensure that all supported research aligns with our strategic objectives, strengthens translation into practice and policy, and supports high-quality primary care across central and eastern Sydney.

Research provides the evidence base for effective, equitable and efficient primary care. It drives innovation and continuous improvement and is essential for developing and evaluating health care solutions that are relevant and tailored to the local context.

Our work is supported by our strong partnerships with local universities, access to primary care data, local research committees, and a diverse population. We also engage a large network of general practices and allied health providers.

We work with clinician-researchers and partners to foster collaboration, support student placements, and build research capability. This approach strengthens connections and supports translation into practice and policy, contributing to improved primary care outcomes.  We have also made improvements in how we manage, process and report on the large number of research requests received.

Integrated Liver Toolkit and Education (ILTE) Program

Evaluation of the acceptability of the Integrated Liver Toolkit and Education (ILTE) Program found that clinicians recognised its potential to improve the early identification of advanced chronic liver disease and strengthen collaboration between general practice and specialist services. Participants valued the specialist support, outreach, and integrated referral pathways, which helped build confidence in managing patients at risk of liver disease. The evaluation also identified opportunities to strengthen the program, including improving workflows, digital usability and practice staff confidence to use the tool.

”It was really good to capture people at risk that weren’t part of the hepatitis B surveillance, so that we could make sure that they were getting the right tests and getting referred to the right places.
