Urgent Care

Urgent care clinics and services provide free, general practitioner led care for non-life-threatening conditions such as minor injuries and infections. These services offer an alternative to emergency departments, helping reduce pressure on hospitals while supporting timely, appropriate care close to home. CESPHN commissions Medicare Urgent Care Clinics funded by the Australian Government and NSW Urgent Care Services funded by the NSW Ministry of Health.

During 2025-26, urgent care services expanded across the CESPHN region. There are now four Medicare Urgent Care Clinics operating in Burwood, Carlton, Maroubra and Marrickville, and three NSW Urgent Care Services operating in Belmore, Caringbah and Green Square. Burwood and Marrickville Medicare Urgent Care Clinics opened in December 2025, improving access to urgent care across the region.

Urgent care services continued to strengthen integration across the local health system, with referral pathways between emergency departments, general practice, Healthdirect and NSW Ambulance supporting more coordinated access to appropriate care.

Monthly presentation numbers continued to increase, reflecting strong community demand for accessible, general practitioner-led urgent care.

”Without this service I would have had to attend an emergency department and may have waited for an extended period. The urgent care clinic helped me receive timely care and helped reduce pressure on the hospital system.
